ARTWORK in El Espectador: a hotel open to the city

El Espectador published a report on OBRA Hotels shortly after our opening in Astorga. We are sharing it here because it captures quite well what we are trying to build in this El Poblado neighborhood.
What the media highlighted
The report describes OBRA as "a living hotel, open to the city, with brick, clay, terracotta tones, and vegetation, designed to preserve the identity of Astorga".
That phrase summarizes our starting decision. Astorga is one of the neighborhoods where Medellín still feels like Medellín: low houses, old trees, corner bakeries. A hotel arriving in such a place can impose itself or it can join in. We chose the latter, and that is evident in the building's materials and in how the common spaces function.
Local culture as the core
The article focuses on the hotel's commitment to culture. It is not just a statement of intent: parts of OBRA are left free for things to happen—tastings, talks, launches, book clubs, podcast recordings, and fashion and design meetups—and the programming changes with the rhythm of the city.
